Herbs from Native Remedies

Native RemediesHerbal remedies are derived from naturally occurring plants with healing and therapeutic properties. Herbal preparations, also called phytomedicines, are classified as dietary supplements.

Plants had been used to treat and prevent diseases since antiquity. And people in different parts of the world tend to use similar herbs for the same diseases and conditions.

Often, herbs are used in various combinations because the combination is more effective.

The use of herbal and other dietary supplements has greatly increased over the last years. Natural remedies are taken for various reasons such as:

  • strengthening the body's immune system
  • promoting general health
  • self healing
  • treating disease
  • curing common ailments

When used correctly, herbs can be useful for a variety of conditions and are usually harmless. However, some phytomedicines can cause allergic reactions, adverse effects, and interactions. In some countries they are regulated.

During the earlier days herbs were used in their purest form. They were ground together to form a paste or tonic and was administered on the ailing person. As time went by, herbal remedies with their modernization are not available in the purest form, as they have various tinctures and additives. Nevertheless, they originate from natural plants and are less risky and much cheaper than other forms of healing.
